The City of Wolverhampton Council’s WV Active leisure centres are working towards reopening as soon as it is safe to do so.
Under the Government road map outlining the planned relaxation of the coronavirus lockdown measures in England, the earliest that gyms and pools in leisure centres will be allowed to reopen is Monday 12 April. This will be followed by the reintroduction of group exercise classes and indoor sports no earlier than Monday 17 May.
Prior to the leisure centres reopening to members, clubs will be able to use WV Active facilities for organised outdoor sports from Monday 29 March.
WV Active will be following Government and industry guidance to safely reopen its three centres – WV Active Aldersley Leisure Village, WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams and WV Active Central.
This means that restrictions will remain in place including sessions being booked in advance, limited numbers of participants in each session and social distancing throughout the centres.
Two WV Active centres – Aldersley and Bilston-Bert Williams – are currently operating as Covid-19 vaccination sites. They will continue to support with the delivery of the life-saving vaccine when the leisure facilities reopen.
Cabinet Member for City Environment, Councillor Steve Evans, said: “It’s fantastic that two of the WV Active sites are being used to support the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine whilst they are closed.
“The WV Active team are playing a huge part in this, as many members of staff have been trained up and are now administering the vaccines.
“We are confident we can reopen our leisure centres safely whilst continuing to support the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine and are looking forward to welcoming back our members to the three centres as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre, operation by Places Leisure, will also be opening in line with WV Active centres under the guidance of the Government road map.
Until the leisure centres reopen, WV Active will continue to offer free online workouts for members to enjoy. For more details about WV Active, and to become a member, please visit www.wvactive.com.
