What's on at Walsall's Family Hubs this Spring

These are just a few of the events and workshops that are running at the Family Hubs between April and June 2024.

A wide range of sessions and workshops are being hosted from the council’s Family Hubs which launched last year.

What are Family Hubs?

Family Hubs offer a welcoming space where families can access advice and support from a range of services. The Hubs have been set up to support families with children aged 0-19, or 0-24 for those children with special educational needs and disabilities.

With teams located in four locality hubs across the borough, a variety of services can be found all under one roof, to provide the families they work with easier access to these services, to provide the right help at the right time.

Practitioners include family support practitioners, health visitors, school nurses, early help, police officers, domestic abuse support practitioners, mental health support and substance misuse support.

The four hubs are located at:

• North Family Hub - 275 Blakenall Lane, Blakenall, Walsall WS3 1HJ

• West Family Hub - Ilmington House, Crescent Road, Wednesbury, WS10 8AE

• South & Central Family Hub - Birchills Street, Walsall, WS2 8NG

• East Family Hub - Silver Court, Walsall, WS8 6HA

There are also an additional 10 ‘community spokes’ based in voluntary and community buildings across the borough.

What’s on between April and June 2024?

Stay and plays – An opportunity for you and your child to come along, for free, and spend some quality time with each other. Every stay and play has a specific theme, with fun and interactive activities.

Dad stay and plays - An opportunity for dads to turn up with their children to have fun together, for dads to be able to talk with other dads about whatever they wish, as well as have a fun time!

Introduction to solid foods workshops – Come along to find out more about solid foods. A member of the infant feeding service will be available to answer any questions and support you through this exciting stage in your baby's feeding journey.

Walsall Works drop-in sessions – All of the Family Hubs are hosting drop-in sessions with the council’s Walsall Works team. Any resident in Walsall over the age of 16 can come along to speak with a member of the team who can help with careers advice, training and skills support, CV writing, and practical help with job applications and interview preparations.

Wellbeing workshops – Our workshops allow you to explore wellbeing, share tools and resources around taking care of yours and your families emotions and give you a chance to talk with others.

First aid workshops – Workshops for families with children aged 0-5. An opportunity to learn about health and safety and first aid.

Breastfeeding support group – Every Friday between 11am and 12:30pm, the North Family Hub hosts a breastfeeding support group facilitated by Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust infant feeding service. The group is a space for mothers to come along and receive help with their feeding journey and speak with fellow mums about all-things feeding.

These are just a few of the events and workshops that are running at the Family Hubs between April and June 2024.

More sessions at being held at our community spokes, which includes activities such as baby and toddler groups, toddler splash, story time, sensory activities, baby massage, rhythm time and more.
