The borough of Walsall is in the midst of a £1.5billion transformation that will create opportunities and drive growth.
Walsall Council has launched a new economic forum to bring together strategic businesses and the public sector to discuss growth and share best practice.
The aim of the partnership is to give Walsall businesses a platform to discuss and influence key decisions that will impact the future of the borough.
Councillor Adrian Andrew, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration at Walsall Council, said: “The economic forum will put businesses at the centre of regeneration plans for the borough. A key priority of Walsall’s regeneration is to nurture and support local businesses to drive growth within the borough. Our focus is to build a balanced, vibrant and resilient economy where local people and businesses thrive and setting up this partnership will give businesses the chance to be heard, and to influence decision making.”
Businesses involved in the partnership will have access to support and information, and the content of meetings will be planned to cover important topics such as bridging the skills gap and attracting inward investment.
Manjit Jhooty, CEO of Jhoots and Chair of the Town Deal Board in Walsall, said: “The economic forum is a great opportunity for local businesses to have their say on issues that affect them. Having a two-way dialogue with the Council will help ensure that decisions are made strategically and in the best interests of the local economy.”
The economic forum was launched at a recent Walsall business event where businesses were invited to find out more about the future plans for the borough. The first meeting is due to take place in November.
Key stakeholders invited to be involved in the partnership include the West Midlands Combined Authority, University of Wolverhampton, Walsall College, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, as well as around 20 strategic businesses.
Walsall Council is looking to involve representatives from SMEs and encourages Walsall-based SMEs interested in getting involved to come forward.
