Walsall Council commemorates Holocaust Memorial Day

Walsall Council is encouraging residents to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday 27 January 2025 and take part in the ‘Light the Darkness’ national initiative.

In the evening at 8pm, people across the nation will place a light or candle in their window, in a safe manner, to remember and reflect.

This year commemorates the 80th anniversary of the date of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp. It also marks 30 years since the genocide in Bosnia.

Councillor Garry Perry, Leader of Walsall Council, said, “On Holocaust Memorial Day, we remember the millions of victims of genocide across the world.

“Discrimination of all kinds continue even today, and we have a shared responsibility to fight this where we see it. By learning from the past, we can continue to work towards making Walsall a welcoming place where everyone feels safe.”
