Festive films, fancy Christmas lights, a Tamworth Castle experience, a roller rink disco and Christmas party night extravaganzas – those are just a selection of the many exciting festive activities Tamworth is offering this Christmas season.
The month of December leading up to Christmas Day is a magical period and Tamworth, situated in the beautiful landscape of Staffordshire, provides an idyllic location for a dreamy snowy walk with a packed schedule of thrilling activities for the whole family.
You will find everything you need to know about what’s on in the area on the Visit Tamworth website, but here is a flavour of what to expect from the season.
Go door to door and explore the many unique and independent shops, bars, restaurants and coffee shops that fill up the streets of Tamworth’s town centre. Our town also has three major retail parks – Ventura, Jolly Sailor and Cardinal Point – giving shoppers a plethora of stores to choose from.
Parking charges will be dropped for all Tamworth Borough Council car parks on Saturday, December 11 and Saturday, December 18. Ankerside Shopping Centre will also be providing shoppers free parking in its car park on the two Saturdays. However, the offer does not apply to the privately-run NCP car park on the site of the former Gungate Precinct.
Besides the great shopping scene in Tamworth, there is loads of fun and exciting entertainment taking place at Tamworth Assembly Rooms this Christmas – perfect for a festive season outing with your friends and family.
Here’s a little taster of some of the fantastic events happening at the Assembly Rooms:
- Santa’s Best Ever Christmas (Monday, December 13)
- Christmas Party Night Extravaganza (Thursday, December 16)
- Christmas Party Night Extravaganza – Born in the 80s! (Friday, December 17)
- D-Day Darlings present ‘A Christmas to Remember’ (Sunday, December 19)
Making its debut this year, Tamworth Assembly Rooms will launch its brand-new cinema with a fantastic schedule of classic Christmas movies for all the family to enjoy. The movies will be showcased throughout the week leading up to Christmas Day from Monday, December 20 until Friday, December 24. Grab some snacks, get comfortable and watch classic films such as Home Alone, Die Hard, Frozen, Love Actually, The Polar Express and more in style on the cinema’s big screen.
During your trip to the town, explore Tamworth’s rich heritage by looking around the extraordinary Tamworth Castle.
Whilst the castle will be closed on the weekends of 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th December for the sold out Santa visits, you can still experience the castle at Christmas, Tuesday to Friday until December 23rd and then from Tuesday, December 28 to Thursday, December 30 – before it shuts for the entirety of January.
Get your skates on and glide on the festive outdoor roller disco in the Castle Grounds from Friday, December 17 to Wednesday, December 22 from 12 noon until 7pm. For the first time ever, the Castle Grounds will host its own roller rink for families to enjoy for 50 minute sessions and will be situated under a marquee on the tennis courts.
Don’t forget, Santa Claus is returning to Tamworth. And there are plenty of opportunities to visit the main man himself this season.
- Planters Garden Centre (Monday, December 20 – Friday, December 24)
- SnowDome Winter Wonderland (Monday, November 29 – Sunday, January 2)
- Father Christmas Doorstep Visit (Saturday, December 18)
