Tamworth Borough Council has been supported by Staffordshire Police with the eviction of two tenants found to be guilty of persistent anti-social behaviour by the courts, as a week of national action is launched with ASB Awareness Week.
Two council tenants in the borough have been evicted from two separate properties following an ongoing period of continual disruptions and complaints from neighbours.
Both people were issued possession orders by the court after being presented with evidence of persistent anti-social behaviour over a period of three to five years. Tamworth Borough Council has been working with the police for a long time to get to this point and thanks all partners involved for their continual work to achieve this successful outcome.
Eviction is a last resort and the council prefers prevention, early intervention and exploring ways with all agencies to resolve matters so our communities can enjoy their homes. But where this fails then eviction is pursued.
In these cases the police and council, worked collaboratively to resolve matters. This is part of the national campaign aimed at bringing together people and organisations from across the country to take a stand against anti-social behaviour and make communities safer.
Chief Inspector, Rob Neeson, of Tamworth Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), said: “We have supported Tamworth Borough Council in the successful eviction of tenants at two properties in the Leyfields and Stonydelph areas of Tamworth. These tenants have caused months of anti-social behaviour and disruption to their local communities, impacting on the quality of life of those surrounding neighbours.
“It is thanks to the support of local people who came forwards with information that these successful evictions have taken place.
“Tamworth NPT and Tamworth Borough Council are committed to working in partnership with our local communities to create a safer Tamworth.”
Cllr Stephen Doyle, Cabinet member for Regulatory and Community Safety, said: “We need to change the way we think about anti-social behaviour (ASB). It is not low-level crime. It devastates the lives of victims and communities and can be a precursor to more serious crime.
“As the nation begins to recover from the impact of the pandemic and our society and economy celebrates the start of return to normal life, it is important that the challenge of ASB continues to be given the priority it needs nationally and locally so that people feel safe in their homes and communities.
“We thank our partners and local residents for supporting us with these recent evictions; it is vital that we continue to develop these partnership approaches across communities to deal with the growing challenges around ASB.
“Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home and community.”
