• Tamworth is showing solidarity with the people of Ukraine by marking the one-year anniversary of the invasion by flying the Ukraine flag from the council offices and castle. • Tamworth Castle to be lit up as the Ukraine flag colours • The government is encouraging individuals and organisations across the UK to participate in a national minute’s silence
On 24 February, it will be the one-year anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
Tamworth Borough Council will join the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and other authorities in demonstrating our support for the people of Ukraine, by flying the Ukraine flag from Tamworth Castle and the council offices on Lichfield Street. In addition, the castle will be lit-up in blue and yellow on the 24 February.
The scheme has seen 22 Tamworth households hosting a Ukrainian guest or family, and 168 others have also offered a home. If anyone is interested in offering support, see the Staffordshire County Council website: Support for Ukraine - Staffordshire County Council
Since the invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, thousands of Ukrainians have been killed defending their freedom from Russia’s appalling onslaught. Millions more have been forced from their homes, with 114,400 Ukrainians finding refuge in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme
Everyone across Tamworth can also show support for Ukraine on the 24 February by
joining a national minute’s silence at 11am.
This national moment of reflection will offer the UK public the chance to pay tribute to the courage of the Ukrainian people and demonstrate the UK’s unwavering solidarity with the country.
The government is encouraging individuals and organisations across the UK to participate.
