Tamworth Borough Council are excited to announce that Tamworth has been shortlisted for the VISA Rising Star award, as part of the ‘Let’s Celebrate Towns competition.’
The Tamworth nomination submitted by the council, is shortlisted for a Rising Star town category.
The nationwide competition celebrates the hundreds of towns across the UK helping local businesses and communities to thrive.
Let's Celebrate Towns celebrate what makes our towns unique. It shares leading examples of how towns are adapting to new challenges and opportunities in a rapidly changing environment and encourages the adoption of best practices across the nation.
By entering, towns across the UK have the chance being one of eight towns recognised across two categories: Champion and Rising Star. There is also a grant fund for all those selected, which will contribute to local community and sustainability initiatives, as well as business and professional coaching to help towns start, scale, and grow ideas.
The two categories are:
Champion Award
The Champion Award recognises exceptionally strong examples of towns that are creating a highly supportive business environment and helping communities to thrive, leading the way for other areas across the UK to follow.
Rising Star
The Rising Star Award celebrates up-and-coming towns that are on their way to transforming the future business environment and community programmes.
The next steps of the competition will see a panel of expert judges review all the shortlisted submissions, to decide on eight winning towns, two from each nation of the UK.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Wednesday 1 March 2023, when Tamworth could win £10,000 for a community fund, as well as a programme of mentorship for local businesses.
Anna Miller, Assistant Director of Growth and Regeneration at Tamworth Borough Council, said: “This is an exciting award that I am delighted we have been shortlisted for.
“Tamworth has so many great plans for town centre regeneration, many beginning to take shape like the transformation of the Coop site into a new college as part of the exciting Future High Street project.
“To be shortlisted is recognition of the great work currently taking place and if successful, will provide further funding to support an innovative community project.”
