Wolverhampton’s inaugural Yo! Summer Festival now boasts 375 activities and events to keep children, young people and their families busy during the school holidays.
The festival is packed with a mix of free and paid for activities, ranging from sports, clubs and fun days to arts and crafts and much, much more. Full details are available at www.yowolves.co.uk.
Highlights include free swimming lessons from WV Active, sensory sessions with animals at HugglePets in the Community, sculpting, painting and drawing classes from Real Arts Workshops and the return of the innovative walking, running and rolling game Beat the Street.
The Yo! Relight Festival offers 17 events under a big top in West Park, Central Youth Theatre is holding drama days, Wolverhampton’s libraries have a wide range of events throughout the six weeks – including the ever-popular Summer Reading Challenge – and there are also activities for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities from organisations across the city.
Councillor Beverley Momenabadi, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Thanks to combined Government and council funding of £1.4m and the support of 40 local partners we will be delivering a full, fun programme throughout the school holidays.
"After the 16 months we have experienced, we need something to put a smile back on people’s faces and I urge all children, young people and their families to get involved in this fantastic festival.”
As well as details of festival activities, the new online platform which has been launched as part of the Yo! brand – www.yowolves.co.uk – also offers children, young people and families support, advice and information on everything from mental health and wellbeing to education and careers.
