Registration is now open for the garden waste service and keen gardeners are being encouraged to sign up if they want their green bins emptied next year.
The service, run by the Tamworth Borough Council and Lichfield District Council joint waste partnership, will maintain 2020’s prices of £36 per garden waste bin for fortnightly collections throughout 2021.
This works out at around £1.56 per bin collection. The council makes 23 garden waste collections from the end of January to mid-December.
From grass cuttings and weeds to leaves and dead plants, green bins are a great way to recycle your garden waste. Composting is also good for the environment and can save time consuming trips to your local household recycling centre.
Cllr John Chesworth, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Environment and Culture, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who signed up to our garden waste service in the last year.
“The garden waste service continues to be popular with our green-fingered residents and we are now reminding people that they will need to sign up again if they would like their green bin to be emptied next year.
“It costs the same regardless of when you sign up during the year, and your annual subscription will always end in December. This is why it makes sense to register for 2021 before the start of the year, so you can get a full year’s worth of collections.”
Sign up for the 2021 garden waste service is now open at www.tamworth.gov.uk/mygardenbin or by calling the shared waste service on 0345 002 0022.
Green bins will not be emptied in 2021 unless they are displaying the new garden waste sticker. People are also encouraged not to cover up their current 2020 stickers, so bin crews know to continue emptying your bin for the remainder of this year.
