Say a big thank you to others on #YES Appreciation Day

Children and young people are being encouraged to show their appreciation to others for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic on #YES Appreciation Day.

Taking place on Friday 5 March, #YES Appreciation Day is a chance for young people to say a public thank you to others for anything they may have done in the pandemic – this could be a teacher, a family member, a keyworker or a friend.

And adults are also encouraged to show their appreciation to children and young people who have gone the extra mile during the pandemic.

Taking part is easy and people can show their appreciation in any way they want. This could be through video, photos, drawings, paintings, poems, social media posts or any other creative means.

These should then be shared on social media by using the hashtag #YESAppreciationDay; any posts received which have used the hashtag may also be featured on HeadStart Wolverhampton’s social media pages – @HeadStartFM on Facebook and Twitter.

Councillor John Reynolds, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Covid-19 has been tough for everybody in Wolverhampton, including young people. Many have faced not seeing family members, friends and teachers for long periods of time, which may have had an impact on their mental health.

“This is why we want to give children and young people the chance to show their appreciation for those who have done great things during the pandemic, as well as giving adults the chance to recognise some of the fantastic things young people may have done themselves.

“#YES Appreciation Day will be a great way of boosting morale and a chance to celebrate all of the great things that happen in our city, so please get involved.”

#YES is Wolverhampton’s Youth Engagement Strategy, launched in 2020 to young people across the city, focussing on three themes – Being Healthy, Being Connected and Being You. To find out more about the strategy, please visit www.youthengagementstrategy.co.uk.
