Nearly two years of living through a pandemic has brought into very sharp focus the need for us all to take care of ourselves physically and mentally too. Walsall Council is directing funding at several community based projects to help.
One of them is the Thrive Wellbeing project which will be working closely with, and is a member of, the No Wrong Door approach. So what is ‘No Wrong Door’?
Councillor Stephen Craddock, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing said:
“No Wrong Door is an approach that does what it says on the tin — if you knock on a door and need help, it won’t be the wrong door. You will either be given help there and then or be supported to access more appropriate help.”
“I visited the Sanctuary Hub in Bloxwich High Street recently to help launch the No Wrong Door initiative. I know from experience how important it is to receive a warm welcoming support, which is what this initiative aims to provide.”
“Added to that in attendance was the Walsall Wellbeing Mobile Unit, a partnership between Bloxwich Community Partnership, Manor Farm Community Association, Walsall Community Transport and Citizens Advice Sandwell and Walsall”. The mobile unit is designed to help people with their mental wellbeing needs and prevent wellbeing deterioration.
The project promotes the things people can do to achieve positive mental wellbeing, including helping people to deal with the impact of stresses on their mental wellbeing. The mobile unit will carry a wealth of information and guidance on the support that is available locally, such as wellbeing support and information, signposting, income, employment and debt advice support.
Councillor Craddock added:
“The bus visits 20 areas across Walsall per month and coordinates support with a range of organisations to help residents to deal with mounting day-to-day pressures that can make life seem impossible.
“I’ve struggled with my own mental wellbeing and I have no shame at all in saying that. Sometimes we need to ask for help. It would be a better world if we were all kinder to others, but most importantly kinder to ourselves.”
