New fund announced for additional help with fuel bills, home heating and energy

The government has announced that a new fund will be made available to help with increased home energy costs.

It is proposed that this will be available either as a £150 discount for eligible households (those in Council Tax A to D inclusive) via their future council tax bill or as a £200 ‘loan’ paid in October 2022 for energy bills that will be repaid by residents over the following 5 years at £40 per year. The final details of the scheme are yet to be announced

Reference was also made to a proposed national discretionary fund of £150M with further details to be shared at a later date.

I look forward to seeing the detail of how this will benefit residents going forward; this information will be shared with residents once we know more about how the fund can be accessed.”

“The council currently offers a range of information, advice and support for residents that may be struggling with paying their fuel bills and heating their home and I encourage anyone that needs advice to get in touch for further information.”

Councillor Garry Perry, Deputy Leader, Resilient Communities, Walsall Councilsaid, “This new funding in addition to the support already on offer will help people not only with the unavoidably increased costs of heating, it will improve the energy efficiency of homes in our communities for the future.”
