New parents in Walsall, whose baby was born in the borough, will be able to register births at the council’s West Locality Family Hub from Wednesday 10 April 2024.
Parents must register their baby within 42 days of birth and will be able to book an appointment through the Walsall Council website. Appointments will be available all day, every Wednesday.
The West Locality Family Hub is located at Ilmington House, Crescent Road, Wednesbury, WS10 8AE.
Walsall’s Family Hubs were launched in July 2023, and are a ‘one-stop-shop’ for families with children aged 0-19, or up to 25 years old for those with additional needs. The Hubs centralise a range of essential services all under one roof so parents can access the support they or their family need.
A spokesperson for Walsall Council said, “We are delighted to offer this new service at one of our Family Hubs. Until now, new parents in the borough could only register births at the Register Office in the town centre, which isn’t always local or practical for them or their baby, especially when travelling by public transport.
“We want to help families in Walsall the best way we can, and offering services such as this in our local communities might just make those first few weeks with a newborn that little bit easier for parents.
“Registering births at the Family Hubs also gives parents an opportunity to visit the Hubs, see what they offer, and find out what support is available locally to them too.”
More information about birth registrations, including how to book and what to bring, can be found on the council’s website: https://go.walsall.gov.uk/births-marriages-and-deaths/births/register-a-birth-.
