Birmingham City Council has announced a new grants scheme to help enhance the growing network of Warm Welcomes across the city today (16 December 2022).
A £210,000 funding pot can be accessed by community, faith and voluntary groups to enhance existing Warm Welcome Spaces, by applying for a grant of up to £5,000.
In addition, a limited number grants of up to £10,000 will be made available to establish a series of Warm Welcome Hubs, which will be larger sites offering a wider range of services and support.
Cllr John Cotton, Cabinet Member for Social Justice, Community Safety and Equalities, said: “Working with our partners in community, faith and voluntary sectors, we have seen a wide range of sites open and the positive impact they are having in their local communities – and accessing this funding will help expand their work further when it’s most needed.
“Many organisations and groups offer this support all year round, but the tightening grip the cost of living has on so many of our citizens mean these places are needed more than ever. It’s not just about keeping warm, it’s about providing space for people to come together and support one another as well as providing vital advice and information.
“We want to grow this network so there is one a short walk or bus ride away – and are urging all community and voluntary organisations, as well as neighbourhood facilities, to think about opening up their doors to give a Warm Welcome.”
Applications will be considered towards a range of different costs that include, but are not limited to:
- Energy costs linked to the delivery of the service
- Enhancing a physical Warm Welcome space
- Food and refreshment costs
- Activity costs linked to the delivery of the service
- Staff costs linked to the delivery of the service
- Capital costs and equipment
Non-profit, community and charitable organisations that are registered on the council’s Warm Welcome Directory, signed the Warm Welcome Charter, which are based in Birmingham can apply for funds.
In addition, a £70,000 funding pot has been established for organisations looking to make smaller funding bids will be able to apply for micro grants of £500.
