Staff from Wolverhampton Music Service are once again putting their talents on display to promote music and wellbeing in schools this week.
They will be providing free concerts in over 50 schools in the city over the next few days – to celebrate music and to help schools and pupils as Wolverhampton begins its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Thirty members of staff have formed six groups to deliver three concerts each day from tomorrow (Tuesday) until Friday.
Sarah Fletcher, Assistant Head of Wolverhampton Music Service, said: “We’ve worked really hard to keep connecting with our schools during the pandemic but we’ve missed being able to inspire children through live performance.
"As the country has began to open up from lockdown we’ve listened to schools and have prepared some fantastic performances that we feel will promote music and wellbeing while offering something fun and engaging to pupils right across the city. It marks the start of our contribution to the council's efforts to Relight our City.”
Staff are rehearsing for their performances all day today before taking their show on the road. Careful thought has been given to Covid-secure delivery and choice of music to ensure that there is something for everyone.
The Music Service will be asking participating schools to post their experiences on social media using the hashtag, #RelightMusic.
Emma Bennett, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Director of Children’s Services, said: “Music is a really important part of a young person's education, and it's wonderful that our Music Service is now able to work with students in person once again. This series of celebration concerts is a great way to welcome music back into our city's schools."
