The mobile Covid-19 testing unit is available at Wednesfield Community Hub, Well Lane, until Sunday (16 May).
Anyone without symptoms of Covid-19 can get a free rapid test, without an appointment, at the unit from 8am-7pm today and tomorrow (Saturday) and from 9am to 5pm on Sunday. It will then move to New Cross Hospital next week.
John Denley, Wolverhampton’s Director of Public Health, said: “We know that one in three people infected with Covid-19 do not show symptoms yet may still pass it on.
“By getting a rapid test, people can help us track down some of these hidden infections and prevent the spread of Covid-19 – and that’s why we are encouraging everyone living in Wolverhampton to get tested twice a week.”
As well as the mobile testing unit, free rapid testing for people without symptoms of Covid-19 is also available at:
- The Civic Centre, St Peter's Square, Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm and Saturday and Sunday, 10am-2pm – please note the Civic Centre is closed for maintenance this Sunday
- The Jamia Masjid Bilal, Newhampton Road West, 10am-7pm daily – please note the test centre at the Jamia Masjid Bilal is closed today (Friday) for Eid
- Pendeford Library, Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 10am-2pm, until this Sunday
- The Hub at Ashmore Park, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9am-6pm and 10am-2pm on Saturdays.
In addition, free Covid-19 home test kits are available for collection from the mobile test unit, Pendeford Library, Ashmore Park Hub and the Civic Centre, PCR test centres, Bilston and Wolverhampton Markets, WV Active leisure centres, Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre and participating pharmacies (details at https://maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/). People can collect up to two boxes – containing a total of 14 kits – at a time. The kits contain step-by-step instructions enabling people to complete their test from the comfort of home.
More information on rapid testing for people without symptoms of Covid-19, including advice about how to take the test at home, is available at www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/get-tested.
John added: “If you are testing at home, please remember to register your result, whether it is negative or positive – a negative result is as important as a positive one because it gives our public health team vital data and information to monitor and keep on top of the virus, which will help us get back to normal, quicker.”
Rapid testing is not available for people who have symptoms of Covid-19, including a fever, a new continuous cough or a change to the sense of taste or smell, or people who have been told to isolate. Anyone with symptoms should immediately self-isolate and book a PCR test by visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or calling 119.
