Designs revealed and work to start on new play area at Lakenheath
New play area work to commence at Lakenheath in October
Play area expanded to accommodate more equipment
New accessible access, picnic bench and goal posts
Tamworth Borough Council are delighted to announce that the work to replace and create a new playground at Lakenheath play area, near Ashcroft Infant and Nursery School, will start early October 2022.
Designs from the winning contractor, Wicksteed, reveal what families can expect from the brand-new play area, which includes equipment for youngsters aged three to early teens.
Children will be able to enjoy new swings, a choice of three new slides, 4Saw seesaw, Simple Simon climbing frame, a junior roundabout, talking flowers, cuckoo clock, a special S Cyclone Tropo and a full refurbishment of the popular plane multi-play unit!
The new playground will cover a larger area of the park to focus on accessible access and a wider variety of new play equipment.
In keeping with the housing estate RAF base themed road names, the well-loved plane unit is staying and will be fully restored and given a new lease of life for children to enjoy for more years to come.
Cllr Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “The current playground has been a much-loved over the past decade, creating happy memories for many local children.
“The new Lakenheath Borough Road play area will start construction early October, with a bigger playground, new equipment and a full make-over for the plane.
“There will also be some wooden posts added to the park to allow kids to use them as goals and a picnic bench placed outside the equipment area.
“The new design from Wicksteed brings together a wider choice of equipment for all ages. We also wanted to make as much use of the space as possible and the new layout packs more slides, climbing frames and other multi-use equipment, so more children can enjoy the park at one time.”
