Health chiefs calling on businesses to get staff vaccinated

The City of Wolverhampton Council, in partnership with the Black Country and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group, has contacted local businesses to help make it easier for members of their workforce to get their life-saving Covid-19 vaccinations.

More than 30 walk-in vaccination clinics are held around Wolverhampton each week, and the city’s Director of Public Health John Denley and Sally Roberts, the CCG’s Chief Nursing Officer, have written to businesses in the area asking them to promote nearby clinics to staff.

For larger businesses with more than 50 employees unvaccinated, there is also the opportunity to set up a dedicated on-site clinic.

Mr Denley said: “We know that the health and wellbeing of the workforce is vital and that’s why we are already working with many businesses to ensure Covid-safe working environments.

“This goes one step further. We want to help businesses make it as easy as possible for their workforces to get vaccinated and are asking employers to do their part too by encouraging staff to have their jabs.

“For smaller businesses this means signposting staff to their nearest vaccination clinic, either as walk-ins or for pre-booked appointments, and allowing staff to take time off to get their jabs.

“For larger businesses it may be possible to arrange pop-up vaccination clinics at the premises if more than 50 employees are unvaccinated. This offer includes information and material to promote the clinic and inform the workforce about the benefits of having the vaccine.”

Details of walk-in vaccination clinics open daily across Wolverhampton can be found at www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/localvaccine.

Businesses with more than 50 unvaccinated employees who would be interested in a pop-up vaccination clinic on site can email communications.bcwb@nhs.net for more information.

Latest figures show there were 347.1 new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in Wolverhampton over the last seven days. That means 913 people tested positive for the virus in that same period – though the true number of new cases will likely be higher.
