Five key things we can all do to win fight against Covid-19

There are five key things we can all do to help win the fight against coronavirus – and enable Wolverhampton to safely leave lockdown.

These are:

  • Get tested: Make having a regular rapid Covid-19 test part of your routine.
  • Get the vaccine: Make sure you have both doses of the life-saving Covid-19 jab as soon as you are eligible to do so.
  • Stay local: Keep travel to a minimum and work from home if you can.
  • Practice Hands, Face, Space and Fresh Air: Wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering where required, social distance from people you don't live with and spend time outdoors.
  • Follow guidelines: Keep up to date with the latest measures (visit www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/covidalert) and follow the rule of six or two households when meeting others outside.

John Denley, Wolverhampton's Director of Public Health, said: "We've done incredibly well to drive down the Covid-19 infection rate over the last few weeks and, as we come out of lockdown, it's really important that we don't let our guard down.

“Despite measures being eased, we still all must take action to prevent the spread of coronavirus and protect each other.

“The fact that places like non-essential shops and pubs and restaurants are gradually reopening means there are more opportunities for us to mix, and that of course means there are more opportunities for the virus to spread.

"You can play your part and help keep infections down by following the five simple steps mentioned above. Please do your bit and, together, we will get through this."

More information on rapid testing, for people without symptoms of Covid-19, is available at www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/coronavirus-testing. People with symptoms of Covid-19, including a fever, a new continuous cough or a change to the sense of taste or smell, should immediately self-isolate and book a PCR test by visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or calling 119.

For more information about the vaccine, including the answers to frequently asked questions, please visit www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/vaccine or www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination. People will need to register with a GP surgery in England in order to receive the vaccine. For more details, please visit www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/gps.
