The Safer Wolverhampton Partnership is raising awareness of the dangers of online loan sharks.
It is supporting the Stop Loan Sharks Week campaign, #sharkfreesurfing, and urging people to get advice and support if they have fallen victim to this crime.
People may have borrowed from a loan shark if they were offered a cash loan, were not given any paperwork, are paying an extremely high rate of interest, have been threatened, or have had personal possessions such as a bank card, benefit card, passport, watch or other valuables taken from them.
Anyone who has been a victim of illegal money lending, or is concerned that someone they know may have been, should contact the Stop Loan Sharks 24-hour helpline on 0300 555 2222 or visit www.stoploansharks.co.uk.
Help and advice is also available from the FCA Financial Services Register (https://register.fca.org.uk), Wolverhampton City Credit Union (www.wccul.co.uk), Citizens Advice (www.citizensadvice.org.uk), StepChange (www.stepchange.org) and the Money Advice Service (www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk).
The Safer Wolverhampton Partnership comprises a range of partners committed to working together to tackle issues of crime and community safety in a coordinated way to deliver a collective response.
