Council confirmed as finalist in MJ Achievement Awards 2024

Walsall Council has been confirmed as a finalist in two categories for this year’s Municipal Journal (MJ) Achievement Awards.

The MJ Local Government Achievement Awards have been held every year since 2004, acknowledging many officers, teams and councils over the past 20 years.

Walsall Council features as a finalist in both the Senior Leadership Team and Care and Health Integration categories and will present in front of judging panels on 30 April 2024.

The Council has also been ‘commended’ for its submission to the Workforce Optimisation category for the Connected Working Programme, a series of tools, training and coaching that a department can use to improve performance, culture and staff development.

This follows nominations in the Most Improved Council and Health and Social Care categories of the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards.

Emma Bennett, Chief Executive at Walsall Council, said, “I’m very proud that Walsall Council has been shortlisted in the MJ Achievement Awards.

“The awards acknowledge the amazing effort of those in local government who dedicate themselves to supporting local communities, never giving up in the face of adversity.

“The categories we have been listed as finalists in recognise our ‘Proud’ transformation and Walsall Together, both of which have had positive impacts on the services we provide.”

Walsall Council’s submission to the Care and Health Integration category focused on Walsall Together. This category recognises imagination and innovation in bringing together care and health services under one roof to the benefit of the user.

Meanwhile, the Senior Leadership Team category recognises the vital role of the senior management team in a local authority and its impact on service provision, delivering outcomes for their community, and creating successful organisational change.

Walsall Council’s submission focused on the ‘Proud’ transformation, which has changed ways of thinking, behaviours and how things get done in the council.

Each category is judged by influential commentators from the private and public sectors giving their organisation the chance to illustrate its ability, ingenuity and performance.

The results of the awards will be announced at a ceremony held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Friday 21 June 2024.
