Town centre businesses competed for the best dressed window in celebration of the King’s Coronation The Mayor of Tamworth judged and announces winner Winner receives prize of Assembly Rooms tickets
A local Tamworth business has won tickets to an Assembly Rooms show, after winning the Mayor’s best dressed Coronation Business Window Display competition, organised by Tamworth Borough Council.
The council encouraged local town centre businesses to decorate their premises window to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty the King Charles III and Her Majesty the Queen Camilla, on Saturday 6 May 2023.
Many town centre shops joined the coronation celebrations by decorating their windows with a free coronation party pack from the council, which contained bunting and celebration items to help build their display.
The Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor Moira Greatorex, judged the displays on Friday 5 May, and after a tough decision, chose Oxfam as the winner’s and Salon Six as highly commended.
The Mayor said: “I was delighted to be asked to judge the Coronation window displays in our town centre. It was clear to see that an enormous amount of effort had been spent on many of the windows and I want to thank everyone who took part, the displays really added to the party atmosphere of this historic event.
“I chose Oxfam as the winner because their decorations were so different from all the others. They had made a wonderful, innovative display from the items they were selling in the shop.
“Salon Six was awarded highly commended for the uniqueness of their display. It was not easy to choose between the two, but there could only be one prize winner!”
Tamworth Borough Council pulled out all the stops to help celebrate the coronation, with parties, events and fun throughout the extended weekend including live outdoor performances, cinema at the Assembly Rooms, community sports events, The Big Lunch and outdoor inflatable obstacle courses!
The Mayor added: “What an amazing weekend of celebrations for the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen, both across the country, the world and in our own home town.
“Tamworth Borough Council organised a packed weekend of events, it was wonderful to see so many families and businesses take part and join in with the activities.
“We thank everyone who joined us and helped make the weekend one to remember!”
