Compton’s Memory Walk Returns

Compton Care is hosting a dedicated Memory Walk in the grounds of Chillington Hall on Sunday 19th September, starting at 11am.

Although Compton has a long history of organising in-memory fundraising events, it is the first time an event of this kind has been held since 2018. The Wolverhampton-based charity hopes that the new venue will attract supporters who wish to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one while taking in the tranquil surroundings of the 5k route.

Kate Kelly, Community & Events Manager, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for members of the public to come together with family and friends, and reflect on the memories of their loved ones. We are so grateful to Chillington Hall for allowing us to host such an event within their estate, which is usually not open to the public. When you emerge from the woodland area on the route there is a beautiful lake which completely takes your breath away – it is truly the perfect setting for our new memory walk and we’re looking forward to welcoming supporters of all ages on the day.”

Those taking part will be encouraged to decorate special memory tags with photographs of their loved one, which will be displayed along the route. Participants can also select a song in memory of the person that they have lost, which will be played during the event. There will be a selection of light refreshments available on the day, including an ‘Afternoon Tea in a Box’ from Crumbles, Compton’s new coffee shop, if ordered before the 31st August.

Registration fees, which cover the cost of running the event, are £12 per person or £40 for a family ticket (two adults and up to four children under 18). Early bird registration fees are £10 per person or £36 for a family ticket, if booked before the 1st August.

Sponsorship is also encouraged to help the charity to raise money for local people living with incurable illnesses, and participants will receive their very own Memory Walk t-shirt if they donate or raise £100 in sponsorship before the 31st August.

To sign up, please visit comptoncare.org.uk or call 0300 323 0250 for further information. Afternoon Tea in a Box can be pre-ordered by emailing fundraising@comptoncare.org.uk.
