City centre CCTV network improvements work set to begin

Works to improve Birmingham City Council’s CCTV network around the city centre – which would see 24 new cameras installed and 30 existing cameras upgraded are due to begin next month (March 2022).

The expansion follows Cabinet’s approval for the proposals on 14 December to help plug gaps in CCTV coverage and improve the quality and reliability of city centre network, as well as help residents, visitors and workers in the area feel safer.

City centre Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are being advised and consulted on the proposed locations for the 24 new cameras within or near Colmore, Jewellery Quarter, Retail, Southside and Westside BID areas.

Local street wardens will circulate a questionnaire to businesses and residents within 100m of each proposed location over the next fortnight.

The questionnaire will also be hosted on the Birmingham BeHeard website, where people can share their views until Monday 7 March.
