Christmas tree recycling - January 2021

With this year’s Christmas and new year celebrations drawing to an end soon, Birmingham City Council has confirmed its tree recycling service – free of charge for citizens.

From January 1 to 24, trees will be accepted at the following locations (All of the disposal points are clearly identified close to the main entrance to each park):

  • Lickey Hills Country Park (at Warren Lane)
  • Sheldon Country Park (Old Rectory Farm off Ragley Drive)
  • Sutton Park (Visitor Centre adjacent to Town Gate)

All of the trees that are collected will be chipped and retained within the UK to create biomass electricity.

Cllr John O’Shea, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Parks, said: “If anyone is unable to replant or reuse their real Christmas tree this year, we are once again offering a free and convenient way to dispose of them.

“This scheme has always proved popular in the past and we are pleased to be able to make things simpler for people at the end of the festive period.”

If unable to access any of the dedicated Christmas tree recycling sites, residents are able to dispose of their unwanted trees at any of the city’s five Household Recycling Centres (HRCs).

Residents will need to book a slot to visit their local HRC, but the recently-upgraded system now allows same-day booking with just two hours’ notice - slots must be booked in advance via the HRC website.
