Christmas cheer with the Mayor’s children’s card competition

Tamworth’s Mayor, Cllr Rosemary Claymore, is inviting children aged four to 16 years to get creative and design a new festive greeting e-card that she can send out as her official Christmas card this year

Each year, the Mayor sends a Christmas card to Staffordshire civic heads and local community groups and care homes. This year, Rosemary is looking to add to the festivities by inviting children to design the card in a bid to spread some cheer during a very different Christmas.

The competition is open to two age groups, four-10 years and 11-16 years. A winner will be chosen from each age group and the two winning designs will make up this year’s first online e-Christmas card.

Designs should include a Tamworth Christmas scene. This could be a snowy Tamworth Castle, Christmas shopping in the town centre, St Editha’s Church with Christmas lights, or maybe a snowman within a local setting?

Entries can be drawn, painted, or even a collage design. Once completed, take a photo of your artwork and email to: TARArtsdevelopment@tamworth.gov.uk . Make sure the image includes the whole design and the photo is as clear as possible, as this will be used to create the final card. Please also include your name and age in the email. Schools are also welcome to enter.

Closing date is Thursday, December 3, so why not take part in creating a bit of Christmas joy as we lead up to the festive period?

Rosemary said: “It’s tradition for the Mayor to send a Christmas card to local groups and civic heads and for my Mayoral year I thought it would be lovely to have our own personal design created by a young Tamworth person

“This Christmas will be very different without the usual activities and events, but Christmas is far from cancelled and what better way to get into the spirit than getting creative and designing a festive scene.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the artwork and hope that children aged four-16 years will enjoy this task. The chosen winners will be used for two card designs and highly commended winners will receive gift vouchers and images shared across my social media channels. Good luck everyone!”
