Borough by-election set for 5 October 2023

A by-election will be held in the Amington ward in Tamworth for a borough councillor, on 5 October, it has been confirmed. Only registered electors in this area will be eligible to vote at this by-election.

t follows the seat becoming vacant due to the resignation of former borough Councillor, Liam Bone.

The successful candidate will serve the remainder of the term of office which is until May 2027.

Further notices regarding the by-election and voting information will be published in the coming weeks, in line with standard electoral procedure.

However, there are some key dates for residents to be aware of:

  • Tuesday 19 September – Last day for residents not registered to vote to apply to be included on the register of electors
  • Wednesday 20 September (5pm) – Last day to request a new postal vote, or change an existing postal or proxy vote
  • Wednesday 27 September (5pm) – Last day to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate
  • Wednesday 27 September (5pm) – Last day for new applications to vote by proxy (except in an emergency)
  • Thursday 5 October (5pm) – Last chance to apply for a proxy vote on grounds of a medical emergency or employment reasons

For anyone wishing to stand in this election, nomination papers may be delivered in person to the Returning Officer at Marmion House, Lichfield Street, Tamworth, Staffordshire, B79 7BZ on any weekday between the hours of 10am and 4pm commencing at 10am on Thursday 31 August to 4pm on Friday 8 September 2023.
